A Facebook Holdout Joins the Party

I am not unique in the fact that I do not have a Facebook account but I am in the minority. I don’t have an extraordinary or specific reason for not joining and I'm not anti-Facebook. To be honest I find the busyness and the number of things one can do with a Facebook account overwhelming.

By now, those closest to me know that I am not on Facebook and keep me updated in other ways. Some even send me certain Facebook chats or posts that have particularly interesting updates about friends or family. I appreciate being kept in the loop, but sometimes I feel I miss out.

When my girlfriends, who live far and wide, and I get together they have these entirely separate conversations that stem from something they saw on Facebook. Recently, I discovered that a friend of mine just visited Rwanda and posted serval fascinating videos and pictures of her experience on Facebook.

However, feeling like I am missing out hasn’t been compelling enough for me to jump into the Facebook world because eventually I get caught up on what everyone is doing.

Last week I was trolling Netfix and found Taryn Brumfitt's documentary EMBRACE. It is an inspiring documentary about body image and introduces people to Taryn Brumfitt's Body Image Movement. After watching it my reaction was - Wow! If you are a woman or have daughter stop what you are doing right now and watch this fantastic documentary.

The documentary led me to the website where I discovered that the Body Image Movement is a movement that is having an impact. It made me want to get involved, for me, for my daughter and for my sons. The Body Image Movement spreads its message through ambassadorship and I thought that is something I could do!

The catch – Facebook is an integral part of the way the movement communicates it message and how the Body Image Movement community is linked together.

Taryn Brumfitt's Body Image Movement is compelling and I want to be a part of it.

So, Facebook here I come.

I’ve signed up, completed my profile, and even sent out a few friend requests. This blog is my first post.

So, let’s be friends and then together we can discover the Body Image Movement together.
